THE CREATIVE PROWESS HIERARCHY
Hello friends,
We’ve finally reached Program 37B of The Royal Winchester Thought Assembly’s ongoing series: “Explorations in the Scientific Arts.” This program explains the inception and purpose of Frederick H. Finton’s infamous “Creative Prowess Hierarchy.” Enjoy an educational film starring Dr. Phineaus McCallister below, or here.
I’ve had this idea for over a year now and have always dreamt of someday assembling the pieces of what I believed to be the levels of one’s creative prowess. To go along with those levels would be a physical structure, each ascending level representing an individual’s evaluated creativity. The function of the hierarchy would be to identify one’s creative prowess by examining a piece of work, idea, anything and determining what could be done to push his/hers creative potential.
Anywho. Here’s the first incarnation made for TIWWI’s Night Lights benefit party in my “Imagination Stimulations” section. A bit shittily done, yes.
A revised version made by Hillary Gurtler:
The finalized levels:
1.) Observation/perception/feeling
2.) Sequence of these observations, feelings, and thoughts (ie; stream of consciousness)
3.) Narrative created by these sequences of observations, feelings and thoughts (ie; recounting of events)
4.) Narrative created from these sequences of observations, altered by an emotion or motivation – (ie; the process of lying and denial)
5.) Narrative created from sequences of observations, combined and altered by abstractions, emotions, and multiples of other sequences. (ie; successful storytelling)
6.) Philosophy of life created by observations, applied
personal experiences, emotions (ie; the lens through which we creatively view our world)
7.) Narratives or sequences of observations and emotions altered by philosophy
8.) Abstractions, randomness of observations and emotions altered by philosophy
9.) Perceived "pure" abstractions, images, sounds, dreams, created from
"internal muse"
10.) Original thought*
*(may not exist)
And finally, the complete educational film starring Trevor Byrne as Dr. Phinaeus McCallister, as well as Carsen Labella, Ethan Feldbau, and myself. Completed primarily during TIWWI’s 4th Weekend of Wonderment (Aug 15-16) with the wonderful help of Pete Gill on camera, Caleb Stenzinger on sound, Hillary Gurtler on production design and Mike Humphrey on VFX.
Very excited it’s complete and functional. At least partially. Try it out and please, please, please let me know your ideas and feedback. (sam-at-thingsmadebysam.com)
Pleasant thoughts.
